Watch out, pop world! Zendaya Coleman is making her move.
The former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant is beginning to gain traction in the pop-o-sphere with her single, "Replay," gaining nearly 22 million views on YouTube in just two months.
"I don't expect that kind of reaction, you don't think about that," Zendaya told MTV News of her single success. "I just want people to enjoy it, so the fact that it's starting to pick up speed and people are not just watching it, but truly are enjoying it and appreciating it means a lot to me."
And if you like "Replay," there's a whole lot more on her debut self-titled album. Beginning on Disney's "Shake it Up," she shows maturity well beyond her 17 years, and she admits that this album, sonically and lyrically, is a true representation of who she is.
"I definitely get to showcase who I am as an artist and people are getting to see that and my fans get to take a little bit of me with them," Zendaya said. "And they can truly relate to the songs and understand the songs and I wanted it all to be very representational of who I am as an artist and who I am as a person."
With many standout tracks on the album, Zendaya is having a hard time picking a follow-up to "Replay," even though she admits "Fireflies" is one of her favorites. There is always '90s throwback song, "Love You Forever," which was produced by Nick Jonas and Paul "Famous" Shelton.
"I knew Paul 'Famous', who did 'Replay,' and he did a few other songs on my album," Zendaya said. "And he had brought that song to me and he was like, 'Me and Nick did this song,' and I was like, 'Oh, I love it. Thank you!"
Even though Zendaya and Nick made music together, that doesn't mean the two got in the studio. In fact, Zendaya reveals they never actually met.
"I have tweeted him and talked to him over Twitter and talked to him through Paul," Zendaya said. "But I haven't been like, 'Hey, thank you,' which is funny, but I think we came out with a great song, and I'm very lucky to have him on it."
